Prominent ear correction, otoplasty in Turkey

One of the most common ear problems that require cosmetic surgery is what is known as the prominent ear or bat ear.

This phenomenon occurs as a result of the abnormal growth of the ear cartilage and is larger than usual, which may cause it to deviate from the shape of the head as a whole.

Most of the prominent ear cases result from genetic genes, and they usually create the problem with the person from birth, and the problem may worsen with growth as the size of the ear cartilage increases and its prominence increases, and sometimes an ear may grow more than the second.

On the other hand, an enlarged earlobe may be a problem for some patients. It is a matter that requires a cosmetic surgical intervention to modify it, and the process of reducing the ear lobe is done if it is too large or if it is sagging as a result of wearing certain accessories.

Prominent ear surgery, Otoplasty steps in Turkey

  1. Otoplasty is performed under local anesthesia if the patient is an adult. For children, the operation is performed using general anesthesia.
  2. The duration of otoplasty is approximately an hour and a half, and this varies depending on the type and complexity of the deformity to be corrected.
  3. The operation is performed by making an incision in the back area of the ear cartilage so that the operation does not leave a prominent trace in the future. Through this incision, an amount of excess skin is removed according to the case, and then the cartilage is connected to the tissue, and in the end, the electrode is placed on the skin or the outer skin.
  4. In cases where the ear cartilage is completely released from the skin pressure on it, there is no need for permanent sutures inside the ear, and because of the use of sutures, which completely dissolve on their own, no scars or traces of the operation will appear later.
  5. There are different ways and techniques to perform otoplasty, depending on the condition and shape to be reached, taking into account the preservation of the ear tissue and its function from any damage.

When does otoplasty become necessary?

The doctor determines the possibility or necessity of undergoing an otoplasty procedure based on certain measurements of the ear, its dimensions, and its position from the head, taking into account certain factors such as age and gender.

If the case is discovered at a young age, i.e. under the age of six months, then ear surgery can be performed without the need for a surgical procedure, since the cartilage of the child at this age is softer

This is done by placing an orthodontic device or a splint on the child’s head and ears or ears only so that the ear grows correctly, but if the child’s age is more than six months, the ear cartilage becomes more solid and difficult to control its growth, so otoplasty is the best solution.

After ear surgery, it is important to pay attention to the following points:

  • Compressive bandages are placed on the area of the operation and remain for five or six days from the date of the otoplasty procedure, the importance of these pressure bandages in preventing blood leakage between the tissues after the operation,
  • The stitches disappear on their own after about a week of the operation, because most doctors use sutures that dissolve for this type of operation.
  • The person can return to his working life a week after the operation while avoiding strenuous activities and being harmful to the shape of the ear for 45 days after the operation.
